22 February, 2004 — Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Lent
Yes, it is here again!  On Wednesday, we are reminded of our mortality —
"dust you are ..." Ash Wednesday.  Lent is a time for change — a time to change things in my life so that I might become a little more like the person Christ would like me to be.  Each one of us knows what is wanting in our own lives.  May we have the courage to admit the need for change and the further courage to act on it.  Happy Easter!

Used Clothing Collection
Please give your unwanted clothes and shoes to help the children
of the Kebba Jarjou Memorial Nursery School.

The school is situated in Serekunda, The Gambia, West Africa, and was set up to provide basic education for local street children.  It depends, totally, on charitable donations to meet running costs for teaching and educational supplies.  The school currently has to provide for around one hundred and fifty pupils and has now become a very important part in the lives and up-bringing of these children, who would, otherwise, be growing up to be starving street beggars.

The Used Clothing Collection us very important in the following ways:
1. it raises much needed funds for the Kabba Jarjou Memorial Nursery School.
2.  it raises awareness in Ireland of the problems faced in Africa and the good work of the school.
3.  it allows men and women in Africa to support themselves and become less dependent on Western Aid, as the clothing shipped to Africa promotes a culture of trade and enterprise.

The collection bag should be filled with the following items, only:
all types of clean and dry ladies', gents' and children's clothing.
all types of clean and dry underwear — ladies', gents' and children's.
all types of household textiles — bed-linen, curtains and towels.
all types of shoes [except ladies' high heels and ladies' boots].
Please tie the shoes in pairs and put in separate bags.  Thank you.
Collection:  Monday, 23 February at Clarinbridge Church yard, before 12 noon.
