29 February, 2004 — First Sunday of Lent

Lenten Cross
You might have noticed the wooden cross on the sanctuary and a little container of drawing pins alongside.  The cross, of course, reminds us that Jesus shouldered a real cross of wood in that first Good Friday.  The pins?  Well, if you are 'doing something' for Lent [or 'not doing' something you should be doing!], stick a pin in the cross and ask the Lord to help you persevere, in whatever you have set out to do.  It might, in another way, be for someone who is ill, or in a difficult relationship; whatever.

Clarinbridge Cemetery
Great credit must go to those involved in the upkeep of this cemetery.
There are three notices inside its walls requesting that no "rubbish" be left there.  However, it is quite obvious that some people are not bothering to take rubble [broken concrete, various stones, clay, sand, etc.] very far; in fact, just across the road, on the little road down to the 'cowpark'.  The result is that others are now dumping bottles, cans, etc. having got a little encouragement from the cemetery dumpers.  The culprits, here, may not be local at all, possibly those hired to open graves.  Someone knows, though, who is dumping, and we ask that you insist any waste taken from the cemetery is taken away, and not dumped a few yards from the gate.
