Gymboree Play and Music

Children from 12 months to 5 years and their parents are all welcome at the Gymboree music classes in the Clarinbridge Parish Hall on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm, beginning 27 April. There will be singing, dancing, instrument games, and even a Parachute and Bubble Time! The instructor leads the group through a world of music — from classical to rock and roll. Research has shown that exposing children of this age-group to a range of fun musical styles and rhythms is invaluable to future learning and development, in particular, language, creative and mathematical skills. Parents/grandparents are being offered the opportunity to bring their child/grandchild along to a free preview class.

Trócaire

As we come to the conclusion of the Lenten collection for 2004 — renewed thanks for your generosity — €6,321— a substantial increase on 2003 [€5,244] — almost 20%. This money is destined, mainly, for Rwanda, where it will help in the rebuilding of that country after the devastation of ten years ago, when almost a million people died in a period of 100 days.

Trócaire

The little girl on the Trócaire box, this year, is 12 years old Josienne, a survivor of the massacre. She was two years old at the time. Her father, sister and two older brothers were murdered.

Since 1994, Trócaire has constructed 233 new homes for genocide survivors and has rehabilitated and re-constructed 29 primary schools. Some 40% of the people of Rwanda are living in poverty. Today, 70% of the population is under 14 years. It is estimated three out of four children experienced a violent episode during the genocide. Thank you for remembering them in their hour of need. Keep them in your prayers.

Funeral Home/Meeting Room

Construction will begin during the coming week — and, hopefully, will finish in September. The constructor is Paul Carey, who also built the similar accommodation in Claregalway a few years ago. The cost, for the time being, will be covered by "Meitheal", the Diocesan fund which gives interest-free loans. We will think about ways of paying it back next year! Part of the car park will be taken over by site huts, etc. but they will try to minimise disruption as far as possible.
