Spirit of Voice, 2004

*** In aid of laryngectomy [Cancer Care West] ***
The first ever 'festival of human sound' of Spirit of Galway will take place on Saturday, 23 October, at Saint Nicholas' Church, in Galway city centre. Vocalists and choirs from around Ireland, the UK, and South America will raise the roofs and uplift the spirits. The purpose of the event is to demonstrate the range and power of what the voice can achieve, and is a celebration of life on a winter's day. The event will also recognise those who have lost the power of their voice, possibly through laryngectomy [cancer of the voice box/larynx], through a collection for Cancer Care West. The organisers, Litehaus Productions, are looking for local companies to help fund the event with sponsorship by placing advertisements in the show programme. Around 350 people are expected at the event, but, due to a high demand for tickets, sadly, not everybody will be able to attend, so, they will have to wait for the eventual filmed recording to be broadcast. As you are well aware, local Galway businesses are always so kind and helpful, and over-generous in their support of this kind of event. A tramendous line-up is promised, and the finale group of over 200 voices will certainly tip the decibel scale. The audience will be astounded with the velocity and perfect pitch of all the singers involved. This is an event to reach out and touch the hearts and souls of all who witness its truly brilliant acoustics within the walls of Galway's Saint Nicholas' Church. We hope to achieve our aim of collecting a fantastic amount of donations in aid of Cancer Care West, and, in particular, people who suffer with voice injuries.
Children's event: 3:00 to 4:30 pm. Evening event: 7:30 to 10:30 pm.
For further information or tickets [priced €15/€10 for concessions, or a family pass, at €30], contact Gerry Mulkerrins, Litehaus Productions, telephone: 086–3367129, or email: info@xenergie.com.
