02 January, 2005 | Second Sunday after Christmas

Thanks

Thanks to all who sent in Christmas Offerings. If you have forgotten and still wish to make a contribution, you may send back the envelope during the week. Many thanks, everyone.

Thanks, also, to all who have responded generously towards the cost of "Suaimhneas". Amounts varied from the €20 per month suggested, to sums of €200, €240, €250, a few of €500, a couple of €1,000, and one of €1,200. Whatever your contribution, I am extremely grateful to you, and I look forward to a substantial total at the end of each month, so that we may be able to pay back the loan in a reasonable time. Already, over €17,000 has been paid out. Thank you, and keep up the good work.

  • 10:00 am, Thursday, in Roveagh
  • 11:30 am, Thursday, in Clarinbridge
  • 7:00 pm, Thursday, in Clarinbridge

Exposition

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament takes places on Thursday, 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, in Clarinbridge church. No exposition on Thursday of this week because it is a holyday.

Thanks

Many thanks to all who helped in preparing the churches for Christmas, and to the Youth and Adult Choirs.

Clarinbridge Choral Society

This newly-formed group gave an outstanding performance [their first] on the Tuesday before Christmas, in the parish church. The programme was well thought out and very well presented with a sprinkling of some local musical talent, mingling with the well-known Kathleen Loughnane, and Alex Finn, with readings by John Quinn. Many people remarked on the professionalism and happy atmosphere created on the night. Much credit goes to Liz Mannion [Musical Director], Noel McFadden, and company for a very successful maiden voyage.

Important background people were P.J. Coen [stage] and Tom Cussen [sound]. Paddy Burke's provided the very enjoyable "afters" free.

Alan Kerins' Zambia Project

As Alan prepares to fly to Zambia during the week, the community wishes him well and every success in the goal he is setting himself. We hope he continues to score goals on his return to the 'Bridge and Galway!

Many thanks to all who, so generously, supported him financially. It will bring healing and happiness to a lot of people in Zambia.

Planning for the Future

Now that we have a place to meet [i.e. "Suaimhneas"], I am looking forward to getting more organised as a Church community.

Priests are getting scarcer [and older!], and we need to plan for the future. Here, in our own parish, I would like very much to form a few new groups, as well as adding fresh voices to existing old ones, e.g. a Liturgy Group, who would help in organising the Sunday liturgy [possibly, present the Prayers of the Faithful, etc.].

We need many more stewards at weekends so that we can have a rota system.

A Baptism Team would meet parents some weeks before the Baptism to explain a little about the Sacrament and the ceremony.

We need more readers – why can't we have some who would represent the younger generation, 16-25?

We also need some more Ministers of the Eucharist, and we would welcome new members for the Altar Society. Training is available [from Áras de Brún] for readers, Ministers of the Eucharist, and Baptism Teams.

No parishioner needs any special education for any of the above – just a willingness to help out in an area that YOU might find suits you. Don't be shy – give it a try! Please see it as an opportunity to help build this community as the Lord would wish it. "Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine".
