Trócaire If you have not taken home a "pack" yet, it is not too late pick up one at the back of the church, now, or during the week. This year, the pack includes an envelope. It would be greatly appreciated if you can change the amount you are contributing to notes and return it in the envelope. Either way, I hope you will be able to make some little contribution to our marginalised sisters and brothers in Ethiopia. Please read on: Worldwide, 104 million children are not in school, 59 million of them girls. Only 46% of children in Ethiopia attend primary school. This drops to 15% for secondary. In Ethiopia, fewer than 50% of adults are classed as literate. The cost of eradicating poverty is 1% of global income. At current rates of progress, Sub-Saharan Africa would not achieve universal primary education until 2129, another 124 years. Ethiopia is ranked as the 169th poorest country in the world out of 177. |
Foróige Do you, or anyone you know, have an unwanted pool/snooker table with all equipment? Such an item would be greatly appreciated for use by Foróige youth club members. Contact Trina, at 796614. |
Holy Week and Easter During the week, each home will receive an envelope, "Easter Offerings". This is the sole means of remuneration for serving priests and for those who have retired. It is sad that a large number of parishioners never make any contribution! They probably have some good reason we are unaware of. The envelope will also have a card which sets out the times of ceremonies in Holy Week. |
