Update: Roads and Traffic – Village Footpaths

A public meeting was held on Tuesday, 5 July, with local residents to discuss and prioritise the requirements for renovation of existing pathways in the village. Invitations for the public meeting were delivered to over 180 residents in the village. Following on from the CCDA's May presentation to Galway County Council [and subsequent correspondence], the Council has confirmed that some money is being made available to repair the existing footpaths in the village.

The meeting consisted of a slide presentation, a video and a questionnaire, to get residents' preferences. In addition to the discussion on the prioritisation of renovations to existing pathways, a requirement for several new pathways was identified by residents, which was documented and will be communicated to the County Council for future consideration.

There was almost an unanimous choice to keep the existing curb stones, if and where possible, and, to use tarmac for the new, path surface. Published is a map that reflects the priorities and opinions of all those present at the meeting [with number one being the highest priority].

The Roads & Traffic Sub-Committee's next step is to communicate the preferences back to the County Council, who have stated that they wish to consider these in their future repair works.

Thanks to all who attended.
