*  Summer Barbeque

The CCDA Summer Barbeque was held last Sunday, in Paddy Burke's. Thanks to all who supported the event and ensured its success. In particular, the CCDA would like to thank the management and staff of Paddy Burke's and the Oyster Festival Committee, who sponsored the raffle prize. We look forward to seeing you all there, again, next year.

Offertory Collection

Please do not use any coins except Euro in the weekend basket collection. The coin sorter is programmed for Euro only, and, it can be very difficult to untangle the system when 'foreign' coins clog it up. All notes are welcome! The more, the better, as they are easier to count and carry!

Many thanks to all who contribute to the Sunday basket, which is used for parish maintenance – heating, lighting, repairs, painting, etc.

An August Saint

1 August – Saint Alphonsus Liguori

Born in Naples, Italy, in 1696, Alphonsus first qualified as a lawyer before beginning his studies for the priesthood. After ordination, he soon became renowned for his preaching and for his gentle and direct appeal to his audiences. He opposed the rigours of Jansenism and wrote many works of devotion, which became very popular.

Alphonsus was sought after as confessor and as spiritual guide. He founded two religious congregations – the Redemptorists and Redemptoristines. He served for thirteen years as Bishop of Sant' Agata dei Gotti and then returned to his Congregation. He died in 1787.

Altar Society

Thank you for the lovely way you keep the church, especially in cleaning it every week.

Please leave at least four feet between the seats half-way down for the convenience of Communicants.
