* Clarinbridge Development Plan

Following last Thursday's workshop at the Oyster Manor Hotel, please note that the deadline for comments on the proposed Clarinbridge Development Plan is Friday, 30 September.

Submissions should be marked, "Clarinbridge Development Plan", and addressed to: Forward Planning Department, Galway County Council, Prospect Hill, Galway.

There will also be a post-box in Clarinbridge Post Office until 30 September.

*  Clarinbridge Broadband

A decision on funding for the proposed Irish Broadband and CCDA, joint broadband-application is expected within the next two weeks.

Please note that www.clarinbridgebroadband.com is not connected with the CCDA-backed proposal – a separate commercial venture is.

*  Roads and Traffic Update

I have received a letter during the week from the Galway County Council, thanking us for our submission, with regard to the priority of repairs to the footpaths in the village. They stated that they were in agreement with what we had suggested.

The extent of the work carried out will depend on the tender prices they receive. The existing kerbing will be reused, where possible. We requested wheelchair access to the paths, and, as a result, they have asked us to identify locations for wheelchair-accessible kerbs.

They are now in the process of seeking tenders for this work. They have taken our expressions, with regard to new footpaths from Kelly's Post Office to the 'Parklands' estate, and, in front of the Clarinbridge Court Hotel. They will be seeking funding for these when the opportunity arises. However, this is outside the scope of the existing grant.

The County Council were confident that, by the year's end, we will have an improved footpath network in the village, to the satisfaction of all concerned.

An Evening in Honour Of ...

On Thursday evening next, 22 September, two people will be honoured by a little get-together, beginning with Mass at 8:00 pm, in Clarinbridge church, and, followed by a presentation to mark their involvement in parish life, through the years. Light refreshments will be served. The presentations and refreshments will be in "Suaimhneas", at the rear of the church, immediately after Mass.

There are others, too, in our community, who deserve a little recognition, notably in the Roveagh side of the parish. We will come to this later.

Mary Ryder has given many years of faithful service to Clarinbridge church – Sacristan, flower-arranger, etc.

Margaret Rose Bindon, in a different role, has been a wonderful example of a 'good neighbour', and was on alert long before 'neighbourhood watch' was heard of!

Thursday evening is an opportunity to say "thanks" to those two ladies. Please come.
